AWS HealthOmics has added a resource fallback directive for Nextflow workflows. Users can list preferred accelerator types—such as GPUs or FPGAs—and a CPU fallback. If the first choice isn’t available, the service moves to the next option without needing to resubmit the job. Timeouts for each option are configurable, letting users balance speed against the chance of getting the preferred hardware. The feature is live in all HealthOmics regions, including US East, US West, Europe, Israel and APAC.

## The facts

- Feature announced on 2026-10-14.
- Available in 10 AWS regions (US East N. Virginia & Ohio, US West Oregon, Europe Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Israel Tel Aviv, APAC Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo).

## Why it matters

Bioinformatics teams can keep pipelines running smoothly without manual restarts, speeding up data analysis in healthcare research.
