Global startups raised $59 billion in October, 45% more than a year earlier, according to Crunchbase data. A $15.9 billion round for China’s DeepSeek accounted for much of the increase. Crunchbase News says it was the largest private funding deal on record for a Chinese tech company.

DeepSeek was valued at $90 billion in the deal. Crunchbase ranks it as the second most valuable Chinese company after ByteDance, and the third most valuable private frontier AI lab after Anthropic and OpenAI. Those are private-company valuations, not public market prices.

The United States and China together drew most of the month’s funding. U.S.-based companies raised $28 billion, while Chinese companies raised $20.6 billion. China last saw more than $20 billion invested in one month in June 2018, when Ant Group raised $14 billion in a Series C round.

## A handful of rounds dominated

Seven companies raised at least $1 billion apiece, accounting for just over 40% of October’s total. Their industries included AI, manufacturing, energy, semiconductors, prediction markets and spend-management software. Private equity led much of the investment, alongside venture firms including Sequoia Capital, Index Ventures and Lux Capital.

Massachusetts manufacturing company Re:Build raised $2.1 billion, the month’s second-largest round. Other major deals included $2 billion for energy company Axiom, $1.85 billion for spend-management platform Ramp, $1.5 billion for semiconductor company Tenstorrent and $1 billion for prediction market Kalshi. Frontier lab Flapping Airplanes also raised $1 billion.

AI-driven companies received 66% of global funding in October, and semiconductor companies gained share, Crunchbase said. Another eight companies raised more than $500 million. Among them, TypeSafe AI said it raised an $870 million Series A after rapid developer adoption of its decision model, Jev.

## What the totals leave out

The headline total reflects a concentrated month, not an even rise across startups: seven rounds made up more than two-fifths of all funding. Crunchbase’s figures are based on reported deals and were current as of November 2, 2026. The company notes that early-stage funding data often grows as more deals are reported.

Crunchbase did not include Cohere’s planned $5 billion raise in October’s total because the company had announced its target but had not reported an initial or final close. The report also says at least nine venture-backed companies were acquired for more than $1 billion in October. It describes a possible November Anthropic IPO as a prospect, not a completed listing.

## The facts

- Global venture funding reached $59 billion in October, up 45% from a year earlier, according to Crunchbase.
- DeepSeek raised $15.9 billion at a $90 billion valuation.
- U.S. companies raised $28 billion and Chinese companies raised $20.6 billion.
- Seven companies’ billion-dollar rounds accounted for just over 40% of October funding.
- Crunchbase said 66% of global funding went to AI-driven companies.

## Why it matters

For startup founders looking for investment, October’s headline growth came alongside heavy concentration: seven companies took more than 40% of the funding. The figures show where large checks went, but they do not establish that funding became easier to find for startups outside those deals.
