Google announced that API Gateway now supports streaming APIs in public preview. The new feature works with Server‑Sent Events, chunked HTTP responses, WebSockets and gRPC streaming, and streams can stay open for up to one hour. Enabling it is a single flag when creating the gateway, and the existing OpenAPI contract does not need any changes. The preview also gives gateways a predictable hostname based on the gateway ID, project number and region.

## The facts

- Public preview announced on Oct. 22, 2026
- Streaming enabled with the flag --enable-streaming at gateway creation

## Why it matters

Teams building AI‑driven chat or live dashboards can keep authentication, rate‑limiting and logging while delivering model output as it is generated.
