Amazon Web Services published a more‑than‑3,000‑word blog on Oct 2 2026. CEO Matt Garman told readers that stopping AI data‑center projects would damage the US economy and national security. He said misinformation is being spread to slow the build‑out and that the country can’t afford to lose the AI race.

What Amazon is promising

The blog outlines a “Data Center Commitment.” It lists practices such as creating local jobs, keeping energy rates stable, and investing more than $1 billion in the neighborhoods around new facilities. Amazon also announced it will stop using nondisclosure agreements with government agencies after questions from lawmakers.

Why it matters

If local bans on AI data centers increase, Amazon’s promised jobs and community funding may not materialize, leaving residents without the economic benefits the company touts. At the same time, the firm’s shift away from secrecy could make future deals more transparent for voters.
