Apple lowered the daily AI spending limit for some engineers from $300 to $200 last month, Bloomberg reports. The company may cut limits further, to $100 a day for some staff and as low as $25 for some non-technical teams.
Employees can ask managers for exceptions. Apple staff use tools including Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini; some teams may move to cheaper models or AI that runs on devices. The cuts come as Apple’s research and development spending rose 32 percent in fiscal 2026, driven by higher infrastructure and AI costs.
Why it matters
For Apple employees who use paid AI tools, lower limits could mean switching to cheaper or on-device models, though staff can request exceptions.
