AWS adds warm storage to OpenSearch Serverless time-series collections

The collections add lower-cost storage for older logs and metrics, alongside hot storage, alerting and anomaly detection. AWS says they’re available across its OpenSearch Serverless regions.

AWS announced time-series collections for the next generation of Amazon OpenSearch Serverless on October 28, 2026. They let customers ingest and analyze logs, metrics, traces and event data without managing clusters, with a new warm-storage tier for data accessed less often. Customers can set how long data stays in hot storage before it moves to warm storage; each collection can hold up to 100 TB of hot data. AWS says the collections are available in every region where OpenSearch Serverless is offered, and include alerting and anomaly detection.

Why it matters

Teams monitoring applications, security events or IoT devices can keep older data searchable in lower-cost warm storage, though AWS does not specify the savings here.
