Starting on 2026-10-14, AWS announced that Lambda durable functions can handle up to 30,000 durable operations per execution, up from 3,000. The maximum checkpoint payload size also increased to 1 MB, matching the size allowed for asynchronous Lambda calls and services like SQS and EventBridge. This lets developers run longer loops, poll external systems for weeks, or store larger AI conversation histories without extra storage code. The new limits apply in every AWS region where the service is offered.
Why it matters
Developers can build more complex, long‑running AI workflows on Lambda without hitting operation or payload caps.
