Cloudflare announced that its Monetization Gateway is now available in a closed beta. The service lets website and API owners charge AI agents for each request using the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code. Sellers set prices and payment destinations, and buyers pay instantly with stablecoin USDC via Coinbase’s x402 facilitator. Four customers – Cloudflare AI Gateway, Ceramic.ai, Stocktwits and API2PDF – are already using it in production.
Why it matters
It gives developers a way to monetize AI‑driven traffic directly, matching payment to actual usage.
