Derq, a company that builds AI‑driven traffic safety tools, received a federal contract from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The award is for Phase 1 of the DOT’s Intersection Safety Systems (ISS) program. Derq will demonstrate technology that can identify, predict and mitigate risky situations involving cars and pedestrians at intersections. Only three teams were selected after a competitive review.
Why it matters
If successful, the system could give city traffic agencies a new way to reduce crashes at busy intersections.
