Google has extended its Gemini AI assistant to Apple CarPlay. The feature works inside Google Maps on the car’s infotainment screen. Drivers can tap a Gemini icon and speak to the assistant. It can answer multi‑step queries, such as suggesting a place to stop and then routing you there while avoiding tolls.

How it works on CarPlay

The Gemini integration lets users ask about traffic, points of interest, and route preferences without touching the screen. Google says the update provides a conversational way to report disruptions and find stops while driving. The personal‑information features announced for Android Auto – like pulling data from Gmail or Calendar – are not mentioned for CarPlay yet.

Why it matters

For drivers who use Apple CarPlay, Gemini offers hands‑free help with navigation and trip planning, reducing the need to look at the screen. However, it currently does not pull personal data from other Google apps, so its answers are limited to publicly available map information.
