Google has started rolling out a feature called Guided Vision inside its Gemini Live app. It works on compatible Android phones and uses AI to speak out what the camera sees. Users can point the phone at a label, a sign, or any object and hear a description, including the text on small print. The feature also lets you ask follow‑up questions, like the expiration date on a food package.

How to use it

Guided Vision is available through the Gemini app, through Google TalkBack, or via an accessibility shortcut you can set in Android Settings on devices running Android 9 or newer. When you activate it, the AI gives audio cues to help you line up the camera, then reads the content or describes the scene.

Why it matters

For people who are blind or have low vision, Guided Vision offers an on‑device way to read labels, signs, or product details without needing a separate scanner. It could make everyday tasks like checking expiration dates faster, though users still need other tools for safe navigation.
