NVIDIA adds StormScope EU model to Earth‑2 open weather platform

The new StormScope EU model predicts cloud conditions across Europe every 10 minutes, letting developers build local forecasts for energy, transport and insurance.

NVIDIA announced that StormScope EU, a regional version of its StormScope short‑term forecast model, is now part of the Earth‑2 open‑model suite. The model uses EUMETSAT satellite data from 16 Meteosat channels to produce cloud predictions at 10‑minute intervals. At the GTC Berlin conference NVIDIA showed a live demo built with Earthmover, where the forecasts are served as map tiles that update as soon as new satellite images arrive.

Developers can combine StormScope EU with other Earth‑2 tools like CorrDiff or FourCastNet 3 to add local detail, train on proprietary data, or tackle related tasks such as air‑quality or solar‑power forecasting.

Why it matters

Energy producers, insurers and transport operators can access finer‑grained weather forecasts to better plan operations and reduce weather‑related losses.
