OpenAI announced a new feature called Intelligent UI that adds interactive visual elements to ChatGPT conversations. The upgrade arrives together with the GPT‑6 model and is being turned on for Pro, Plus, Business and Enterprise users right away. Free and Go users will see the feature the next day.
The visuals go beyond static pictures. Users can now get tappable buttons, custom calculators, editable graphs and other interactive widgets that they can manipulate directly in the chat. OpenAI says the goal is to make learning complex topics easier and to help people get things done, from planning a recipe to understanding how an airplane wing generates lift.
What the new interface looks like
During a demo, OpenAI showed a college student asking how a wing creates lift and the chatbot instantly displayed multiple diagrams. Other demos included recipe step‑by‑step visuals, a bicycle‑mechanics diagram, a multi‑day hiking map and a personal savings calculator. Users can dial the amount of visual content up or down in their settings, just like they can adjust ChatGPT’s tone.
Why it matters
For everyday users, the visual tools can turn a text‑only chat into an interactive assistant, making tasks like budgeting or planning trips faster and easier. Students and hobbyists may find complex subjects clearer with on‑the‑fly diagrams. The feature’s optional nature means anyone can keep a plain‑text experience if they prefer.
