OpenAI has filed a legal document accusing an unnamed former employee of taking more than 100 files about its unreleased hardware and giving them to Apple. The files reportedly include images of a device, supplier lists, engineering data, and cosmetic finish standards. OpenAI says the employee showed the material to Apple’s leadership, including the VP of operations in Asia, months before Apple announced its new HomeView smart display. Apple has not responded to the claim.

Why it matters

If true, the leak could give Apple inside knowledge of OpenAI’s hardware plans, affecting competitive development of AI‑enabled products.
