Perplexity announced that the sandbox platform behind its Perplexity Computer service is now open source. The system, named SPACE, runs each AI‑agent task inside a Firecracker microVM, a lightweight virtual machine. The sandbox isolates credentials and outbound traffic, letting developers control access from outside the VM. The code is available on GitHub with an Apache 2.0 license, aimed at teams building coding or web‑browsing agents.
Why it matters
Developers can now build safer AI agents that run in separate, controllable containers without writing their own isolation layer.
