Replit ends Anthropic partnership, cites cost and performance

Replit’s CEO says the coding platform stopped using Anthropic’s Claude models in favor of OpenAI, pointing to lower costs and better benchmark scores.

Replit announced onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt that it will no longer run Anthropic’s Claude models on its platform. CEO Amjad Masad said the switch was driven by cost, partnership terms and internal benchmark results that favor OpenAI’s models. The move follows a partnership with OpenAI announced in August. Replit’s platform lets developers code and deploy apps in a browser, and the shift could affect users who rely on Claude‑powered features.

Why it matters

Developers using Replit may see changes to AI assistance quality and pricing as the service swaps Anthropic’s models for OpenAI’s.
