Researchers introduce TinyAstral, a method for transferring improvements to a robot agent’s tools, feedback and recovery logic into a smaller model. On RoboTwin, the team reports that improving the teacher’s harness raised its success rate from 33.4% to 63.6%; a distilled 4B student reached 62.8%.
The researchers say the student used about one-fifth of its teacher’s accelerator time on measured deployment episodes. The work is an arXiv paper; the abstract does not describe independent validation.
Why it matters
For teams running robot agents, the reported fivefold reduction in accelerator time could lower deployment compute needs, though the abstract does not establish independent validation or broader real-world performance.
