TSMC says AI chip demand outpaces its wafer capacity

Nvidia, Apple and others are scrambling for limited space on TSMC's factories as the foundry reports record profit and a 58% revenue jump forecast.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) announced record profit for a sixth straight quarter and expects fourth‑quarter revenue to be 58% higher than a year ago. The company said demand from AI customers like Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom, Apple and OpenAI is so strong it can’t fill all wafer orders. Analysts warn that if the current pace of compute growth continues for the next 12‑18 months, the shortage could choke the AI industry’s big spending plans.

Why it matters

AI firms may face delays in launching new processors, slowing the rollout of next‑gen services that rely on those chips.
