xAI adds public URLs and Files API integration to Imagine

Developers can now create shareable links for stored files and use those files directly as Imagine inputs, plus save generated images back to storage.

xAI announced new features for its Files API and Imagine service. Users can turn any stored file into a permanent public URL that can be shared without authentication, and they can set the link to expire from 1 hour up to 30 days. The same file IDs can now be passed directly to Imagine endpoints, eliminating the need to re‑upload data. Additionally, Imagine can store its output back to Files storage and optionally return a public URL in a single request.

Why it matters

Developers can streamline image generation workflows and share results instantly without extra hosting steps.
