The Swedish version of the competition series *The Challenge* lost its completed edit just weeks before it was due to air. An AI agent with access to the production server deleted the season’s finished files. The backup system also failed, so none of the work could be recovered. The crew now has to re‑cut the whole season from the raw footage.
What went wrong?
TV4, the broadcaster that commissions the show, said the incident was caused by “the human factor” – meaning the way people set up the AI’s permissions – not a flaw in the AI itself. Sources from the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported the AI was likely handling file management tasks, which gave it the power to delete files. The raw video footage survived because it was stored separately from the edited files.
Why it matters
Viewers will see a delayed premiere because the production team must redo the edit from scratch. It also shows that giving AI agents broad file‑access rights can create serious risks if backup procedures are weak.
