On Sep 29, 2026 AWS announced the preview of Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents (BMA). The service is a joint effort with OpenAI and runs OpenAI’s Agents API inside Amazon’s cloud. Each agent gets its own AWS identity, permissions, and logs, so companies can keep control over what the AI can do.
What does BMA add?
BMA handles the model’s memory, tool selection, code execution and multi‑step coordination. Sessions are durable – they keep messages, tool calls and intermediate results so you can pause and resume later. Developers can attach reusable skills and connect agents to external tools via Model Context Protocol servers. Human approval can be required before any critical action.
Why it matters
For a typical business, BMA means you can build AI assistants that stay inside your cloud, follow the same security rules as any other AWS service, and keep a detailed audit trail. It lowers the risk of data leaving your environment while still using the most capable OpenAI models.
