Amazon WorkSpaces Applications announced unified graphics images on Sep 29, 2026. The new image type works with all current graphics instance families—G4dn, G5, G6 and G7. Before, each generation needed its own image, forcing separate updates. Now a single image can create and manage fleets on any of those instances, and users can switch families from the console or via the UpdateFleet API.
The feature rolls out in every AWS commercial and GovCloud (US) region that supports WorkSpaces graphics instances.
Why it matters
It reduces admin work and lets customers pick newer GPUs without rebuilding images.
