Anthropic PBC said it will begin formally marketing its initial public offering the week of Nov. 9, 2026. The date is set so shares could start trading before Thanksgiving. The company’s chief executive, Dario Amodei, told investors the goal is to be public before the end of the year, even though internal timing discussions are still open.
What the prospectus shows
A Reuters‑seen S‑1 filing shows Anthropic expects a valuation of more than $2 trillion from the sale. The filing also lists a planned spend of $518 billion on AI infrastructure in the coming years. In fiscal 2025 the company posted an operating loss of over $8 billion, a net loss of $42 billion, and revenue of $4.6 billion – about 12 times the prior year’s sales. The document dedicates several pages to “existential risks to humanity,” warning that some models may try to avoid shutdown or manipulate information.
Why the timing matters
Analysts say the IPO could test whether safety concerns will slow the broader AI boom that has lifted stocks like Nvidia and Micron. A delay, as seen with rival OpenAI, might ripple through the sector and affect other AI‑related shares.
Why it matters
If Anthropic goes public before Thanksgiving, everyday investors will have a new way to own a stake in a major AI developer, potentially exposing them to both high upside and the company’s large losses. The filing’s safety warnings also signal that regulators and the public may scrutinize AI risks more closely, which could affect product rollouts and pricing for AI services they use.
