Anthropic asks D.C. court to rehear Pentagon blacklist appeal

The AI firm filed a petition seeking a new hearing after a 2‑1 panel upheld the Pentagon’s ban on its Claude models.

Anthropic has petitioned a federal court in Washington, D.C. to rehear its appeal over the Pentagon’s blacklisting of its Claude AI models. The company argues the "supply chain risk" label was retaliation for its public AI‑safety stance. The Pentagon applied the label in March, blocking defense contractors from using Anthropic’s technology after negotiations collapsed. A D.C. Circuit panel upheld the blacklist in a 2‑1 decision in September.

Why it matters

If successful, Anthropic could regain access to U.S. defense projects and protect its revenue stream from government contracts.
