Event date:

Amazon Web Services announced that S3 Object Lock variable retention with event holds is now available in the AWS GovCloud (US‑East) and (US‑West) regions. The feature lets you set a write‑once‑read‑many protection that begins after a specified future event, like a contract closing. You place an event hold with a retention period, release it when the event occurs, and S3 keeps the object for the duration you set. The capability has been assessed for compliance with SEC Rule 17a‑4(f), FINRA Rule 4511 and CFTC Regulation 1.31.

Why it matters

Government‑contractors can meet event‑driven data‑retention rules without keeping data longer than required.
