AWS Lambda durable functions launch in GovCloud US regions

AWS adds durable functions to its GovCloud (US‑West and US‑East) regions, letting government users build multi‑step apps without extra compute charges.

NoteBy Published by Oossa: 1 min read

AWS announced that Lambda durable functions are now available in the AWS GovCloud (US‑West) and GovCloud (US‑East) regions. The feature lets developers add "step" and "wait" primitives to Lambda code, so workflows can pause, checkpoint, and recover from failures without paying for idle compute. It works with Python 3.13/3.14, Node.js 22/24, Go 1.24+, .Net 2.2 and Java 17+. Customers can enable it via the console, API or infrastructure‑as‑code tools like CloudFormation.

Why it matters

Government agencies can now orchestrate complex, compliant AI and business workflows in Lambda without extra runtime costs.
