Google announced that its Gemini 4 Argon model is now available to Gemini app users on the Pro and Ultra subscription plans. The upgrade arrives two weeks after Argon was first given to vetted cybersecurity defenders. Along with the model, Google added a new tasks mode that lets Gemini keep working on a job after you leave the computer.

What does Argon change?

Google says Argon answers more directly and repeats itself only when needed. It also gives progress updates more often for longer jobs. The tasks mode is a single toggle in the chat window; once on, Gemini can place grocery orders through Instacart or book tables on OpenTable, and it works with over 40 connected apps, including Adobe and Shopify. The model also brings “major improvements in coding,” according to Google’s own benchmark results.

Pricing and availability

The Gemini app’s Pro plan costs $19.99 per month in the U.S.; the Ultra plan starts at $99.99 and includes higher Argon usage limits. Tasks mode is currently limited to select countries and is still rolling out to Pro subscribers. Developers can use Argon through the Gemini API at introductory rates of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens until Nov. 30, after which the rates double.

Why it matters

For everyday users who pay for Gemini Pro or Ultra, Argon means faster, more decisive answers and the ability to let the AI finish tasks like ordering groceries while they’re away. Developers and businesses can try the new model at a low introductory cost, but the higher token prices after Nov. 30 may affect budgeting for heavy users.
