llama.cpp fixes SYCL Conv2D layout handling

Release b11815 fixes incorrect SYCL Conv2D results for certain tensor layouts and reports all 2,006 backend tests passing.

NoteBy Published by Oossa: 1 min read

The llama.cpp project’s b11815 release fixes how its SYCL backend handles two-dimensional convolution (Conv2D) with channel-order inputs and kernels. Previously, the operation could read non-contiguous inputs using the wrong element offsets and silently return incorrect results.

The change limits the operation to contiguous inputs and kernels, matching the CUDA backend’s contract, and adds an input-contiguity check. The project reports that SYCL Conv2D tests went from 16 failures to none; 2,006 of 2,006 tests passed.

Why it matters

For developers using llama.cpp’s SYCL backend, this addresses a case where Conv2D could silently produce wrong results, though the release notes do not describe which applications or hardware users may encounter that layout.
