Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup that helps software developers run several AI coding agents in parallel on different parts of a project. Meta confirmed the deal to TechCrunch but did not disclose its terms or offer further details.
Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced the acquisition on Wednesday, November 4. He said the company has “big, crazy plans for the next interface” and expects to have something new for customers to use early next year. Conductor’s announcement says its existing product will keep working as usual until then, with an important exception: its cloud service is being shut down.
What Conductor users need to know
Conductor’s timeline sets November 13 as the date its cloud workspaces become read-only. Users can still view old chats and export data after that, but they will not be able to send new messages. The cloud service shuts down on November 20, when Conductor says it will begin deleting cloud user data. The company offers a way to transfer cloud workspaces to local use and asks customers to export their data before the shutdown.
New users can no longer sign up or download the app. Existing free users cannot upgrade to a paid plan, while current Pro users can keep using Pro features for free. Active subscribers will receive refunds, according to Conductor. Its local app will continue to get new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027.
A young coding product
Conductor says it launched in July 2025. Its agents can run in the cloud, on a user’s computer or through a phone, and are intended to handle separate parts of a software project at the same time. The company says it uses agents from major AI labs, including Anthropic and OpenAI, rather than developing its own.
The acquisition adds to Meta’s recent push into AI tools. TechCrunch notes that Meta launched its own coding agent, Muse Code, in August and has reported more than 10 million users for its Muse agents. Holtz said he looks forward to working with Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, who leads product at Meta Superintelligence Labs. Neither company has detailed how Conductor’s technology or team will fit into Meta’s products.
Why it matters
Conductor customers with cloud workspaces need to export their data before November 20 or risk losing it as deletion begins. Local users can keep using the product for now, but Meta and Conductor have not explained what the promised new product will be or whether it will replace Conductor.
