Nvidia weighs backing Nscale’s West Virginia data center debt

Nvidia is discussing a guarantee for financing tied to Nscale’s planned campus, which would help the AI cloud provider fund construction and power costs.

Nvidia is in talks to guarantee billions of dollars in debt financing for Nscale’s planned AI data center campus in West Virginia, according to The Information; Bloomberg later corroborated the report. The proposed guarantee would cover construction payments: if Nscale defaulted, Nvidia could temporarily take over the facility and help find a buyer and tenant.

Anthropic has signed a $44.6 billion contract for the campus’s first building, planned at 460 megawatts and designed to use Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin chips. The guarantee is under discussion, not a finalized deal, and would deepen Nvidia’s financial ties to Nscale while helping keep a major customer’s project on track.

Why it matters

For Anthropic, a Nvidia-backed guarantee could help keep a large source of computing capacity on schedule; whether the financing deal will be completed remains unknown.
