The Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) unveiled WiFireNet, an AI that detects hidden handguns by analyzing how they disturb Wi‑Fi signals. The system uses a standard Wi‑Fi transmitter and receiver to collect channel state information – the way signals bounce and change after hitting an object. The AI then interprets those distortions to spot a gun. The approach works with older 802.11a Wi‑Fi hardware, meaning it could be added to existing networks without new equipment.
Why it matters
Security staff could locate concealed weapons in venues where cameras or metal detectors are impractical.
