Amazon announced three new Alexa‑branded tablets – 8, 11 and 12 inch – on Thursday. Prices start at $230 and go up to $550 for the 12 Pro model. The devices are available for preorder immediately and will ship beginning Oct 14. Amazon said the tablets run Android, have faster processors, higher‑resolution screens and new Alexa features like On‑Screen Intelligence. The company will stop making new Fire tablets, though existing Fire devices will still be supported.

Why it matters

Customers looking for a more capable tablet will now have an Amazon option that competes with iPads, but at a higher price point than the old Fire models.
