AWS has added Linux and Windows 11 cloud desktops to WorkSpaces for AI agents, which previously supported Windows Server. Organizations can choose an operating system to match an agent’s workflows and applications, without re-platforming, AWS says. Linux desktops provide agents full root access for tasks such as running builds, tests and scripts; Windows 11 desktops let them use enterprise applications. AWS says all three desktop options share network isolation, IAM-based access and existing compliance boundaries.
Why it matters
Development teams can assign agents Linux desktops for builds and tests, while teams using Windows enterprise apps can run agents in Windows 11; AWS says both retain the same security controls as Windows Server desktops.
