Developers Reporting 10+ Weekly AI Hours Saved Fell to 26%

Atlassian’s 2026 survey found AI use is widespread, but fewer developers say it saves them ten or more hours a week.

Atlassian’s State of Developer Experience 2026 found that the share of developers reporting at least 10 hours saved each week with AI fell from 68% to 26% in a year. At the same time, 95% of developers and 96% of engineering leaders said their organization actively uses AI in engineering. Atlassian also found that 49% of developers spend at least four hours a week managing AI tools, and 65% spend time correcting AI work that missed the intent. The survey is based on self-reported experience, not measures such as deployment speed, and Atlassian cautions that its findings do not prove cause and effect.

Why it matters

For engineering teams, widespread AI use does not necessarily mean less work: many developers report spending time managing and correcting AI output, while the survey does not establish whether AI improves delivery outcomes.
