Figma adds markdown specs and public beta code layers

Figma launched a markdown‑based Specs editor and opened its code‑layers feature to public beta, aiming to guide AI agents with clearer design rules.

Figma introduced a new markdown editor called Figma Specs that lets teams write design language, embed canvas elements, FigJam diagrams and code layers in a single file. The specs can live on their own or inside a canvas and serve as a reference for both people and AI agents. At the same event, the company moved its code‑layers tool—previously in private beta since June—into public beta, so users can ask the AI agent to generate or edit code directly from designs.

Why it matters

Design teams can now steer AI agents toward more predictable outputs by giving them a clear, shared design spec.
