Modal adds Sticky Sessions to its serverless platform

Modal announced Sticky Sessions on Oct 20, 2026, letting each user session stay on the same container for stateful apps.

Modal released a feature called Sticky Sessions. It routes every request of a given session to the same container, even as the platform auto‑scales. Developers enable it by adding the @modal.sessioned() decorator to a Modal Server and using the SDK or HTTP API to start sessions. The system encodes routing info in a signed session token, so multiple clients can share the same state without disabling authentication.

Why it matters

It lets voice‑assistant, chat‑room and multiplayer‑game developers keep session state in memory without giving up serverless scaling.
