Snowflake adds business context and controls for AI agents

Snowflake announced tools for grounding and governing enterprise agents, plus a public preview of model-training services for customer data.

At its Expedition 2026 conference, Snowflake announced Business Ontology, a framework for setting approved business definitions that its CoCo and CoWork agents can use. It is in private preview, with public preview planned soon.

Snowflake also expanded Cortex AI Gateway with tools to monitor agents, detect abuse, control costs and manage access to models and external tools. Separately, Cortex Training entered public preview, letting customers tailor open-weight AI models using their own information without managing the underlying infrastructure.

Why it matters

For companies using Snowflake agents, approved business definitions could help reduce conflicting answers, while the gateway adds controls over agent activity; the announcement does not establish how well these features work in practice.
