Xeal, a company that runs EV charging stations, announced it will turn idle power at its sites into AI compute. The firm says it will put more than 100,000 Nvidia GPUs into custom cabinets called Latient Pods. Each pod can hold up to 48 Hopper or Blackwell Ultra GPUs and will sit beside existing chargers.
Why the plan matters
The pods use the 200 MW of electricity that Xeal already has permission for but rarely uses – most chargers run at under 10 % of that capacity. By adding compute where the power is already available, Xeal hopes to offer ultra‑low‑latency AI inference without building new data centers.
Why it matters
For businesses that need fast AI responses – like autonomous‑vehicle services or real‑time video analysis – the network could provide compute right next to where the data is generated, cutting latency. It also shows a new way to use unused power at existing sites, which could lower the cost of expanding AI capacity.
