Cloudflare has launched Traces in open beta. The service automatically records every step of a request—security rules, cache decisions, routing, Workers, and origin handling—as OpenTelemetry spans, without any code changes. It also supports W3C traceparent headers so traces can join upstream systems. Pricing changes on Dec 1 2026: spans are no longer billed individually; instead customers pay for data ingested and stored.
Why it matters
Developers can see detailed timing of Cloudflare’s proxy actions in one trace and predict costs based on data volume.
